Should You Use Raid Data Recovery Software?
![]() |
If you're a business computer user on a network, you may already be familiar with RAID. If not, RAID is an acronym that stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks or Redunant Array of Inexpensive Disks. This type of data storage uses multiple drives for the purposes of tolerance, integrity and capacity. If your system has experienced failure or data loss, you may be wondering if you should use RAID data recovery software. While RAID data recovery software may be used by a professional restoration company, you should not attempt to use it yourself.
This is because RAID recovery is extremely complex and one wrong move may cause more problems than you had in the first place. A professional trained in the process knows exactly what to do to restore your lost data and has the right equipment to do so. First, your drives will be taken to a location known as a clean room and made operational. Then they will be cloned using a sector by sector process. The cloned drives will be loaded into a device called an emmulator, and a process called destriping will be performed.
Destriping is much like assembling a puzzle. The data is gathered and pieced together until what is lost has been restored. This is a difficult and involved process that must be done by an experienced professional. How long this process will take may depend on how extensive the problem is and how many drives there are. Now let's talk about price. RAID data recovery is going to cost you. You can expect to pay anywhere to a few hundred dollars to thousands per drive. However for a large company with extremely important data, the service is worth every penny. Some companies may have their own specialist on staff, while others will need to outsource the job.
RAID data recovery software is something that, as stated before, is best left to the professionals. However, for other computers and even networks that are not RAID systems, software may be the ideal choice. Recovery software, when installed before data is lost, allows you to retrieve what you need quickly and easily. There are lots of choices out there, from the basic to the extensive. Prices vary depending on what software program you choose but are almost always cheaper than using a professional recovery service.
