Do You Need a Raid Data Recovery Service?
![]() |
If you've only got one computer, then RAID is an acronym you will probably never need to know. However, if you are on a server, you may want to familiarize yourself with RAID and how to find a RAID data recovery service in the event of data loss. RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independent (or Inexpensive) Disks. This basically means that there are two or more disks that are a part of a network which are used for performance and fault tolerance issues. There are multiple RAID levels which range from 0 to 10. The higher the numerical level, the more extensive the fault tolerance and level of performance.
Also, the higher the RAID level, the more disks you will need for its implementation. For example, levels 0 and 1 require 2 disks, level 3 requires 3 disks, level 4 requires 4 disks, and so on and so forth. Things can get confusing for the average user who is not an educated and experienced specialist in this area. On the topic of data recovery, there are many different reasons why you might lose RAID data. A configuration modification or change can be a factor. Or, the server may crash. There may be conflicts with hardware or software. Viruses can also be a reason that RAID data is lost.
Because of the immense complexity of RAID, you will need a professional service skilled in this type of recovery. These services are staffed by individuals who have had extensive training and experience in the area of RAID. Never attempt to do any recovery on your own, as you can easily make things worse and make the data impossible to recover. While the procedure is very intricate and difficult to understand, here are the basics. The specialist will clone each drive, load each drive into an emulator, perform a process called destriping, and rebuild the drive which in turn restores the data.
As you might imagine, the average RAID data recovery service is not cheap. You can expect to pay anywhere from $500 to $15000 for this type of professional service. Costs vary widely by company, RAID level and amount of work required. Of course, for a business who is in danger of collapse due to data loss, any amount is usually worth paying. You may to shop around for the most affordable service in your locality. Another thing that will vary depending on the service and work required is the amount of time needed to perform the work and get your data restored and your drives operational.
